US-Bangladesh Trade and Investment Seminar 2021

March 3 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Jointly Hosted by Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York and the US Bangladesh Global Chamber of Commerce (USBDGCC)

Bangladesh and the USA enjoy estimable trade and economic relations. The USA is Bangladesh’s one of the most important trading partners, with about 17-18 % of its exports are being destined for the United States[1].  Bangladesh is the 46th largest trading partner of the USA with USD 9.0 billion in total (two way) trade[2]. Goods exports to Bangladesh totaled USD 2.3 billion while goods imports from Bangladesh totaled USD 6.7 billion during 2019. These amounts exclude trade in services. The US foreign direct investment (FDI) in Bangladesh was USD $493 million while Bangladesh’s FDI in the United States was USD 12 million in 2019[3]. Since the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman coincides with the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the independence of Bangladesh in 2021, the Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York endeavors to further enhance the trade and economic relations between the two countries in this year of special significance.

Bangladesh, one of the five fastest growing economies of the world ranks top in Asia. Its economy growing steadily above 6.5% on average over a decade has transformed the country into a land of opportunities. Even in the post-Covid economy, the country’s GDP growth rate stood at 5.2% while the Asian Development Bank has projected the growth by 6.8% in 2021[4]. This tremendous economic performance has made Bangladesh richer vis’-a-vis’ its giant neighbors in terms of per capita income. It is the 29th largest economy in the world by purchasing power parity[5]. The government and people of Bangladesh have been working relentlessly to become a developed country by 2041.

Participants: Over 100 participants from the government of Bangladesh, diplomats, investors, chambers of commerce, business and corporate leaders are expected to join the event.
